About Palazzo Viviani Castello di Montegridolfo
A truly ancient castle dating back to medieval times, doomed to be a constant bone of contention through the centuries due to its strategic position. Situated right on the border between Romagna and Marche regions, Montegridolfo lies on the border of the lands oncebelonging to two noble families, the Malatesta of Rimini and the Montefeltro, Lords of Urbino. It all started in the XIII century when the castle was chosen by the Gridolfi family as their residence. From that moment and for the next three centuries the Conca valley saw a neverending struggle between the two families. As a result Montegridolfo kept changing hands, was repeatedly sacked and suffered great strife at every turn. Indeed in 1336 it was totally destroyed by Nolfo, count of Urbino. The following year it was reconstructed by the patriarch of the Malatesta family, Galeotto. Peace was only restored in the XVI century and since then the Malatesta family has remained “absolute sovereign”. PALAZZO VIVIANI: eight exclusive and elegant suites all furnished with antiques, in the aristocratic residence, characterized by suggestive and pleasant atmosphere. BORGO ANTICO: cosy and comfortable studio/apartments, among the alleys of the old town, in medieval-rural furnishing. Some with kitchenette and lounge. DIMORA PITTORE: an historic rural building that has been renovated and converted into seven modern rooms, each featuring a different theme, with original terracotta floors and furnishings with strong references to its late 19th-century rural origins. L’Osteria dell’Accademia: typical plats of the local tradition. During warm season, guests can dine on the panoramic terrace, facing the hills, up to the Adriatic sea. The village plays host to a wide variety of events all year round, historical celebrations, medieval games, concerts, plays, all inspired by popular culture and traditions. Then, the alleyways become art galleries of expert artisans of lost crafts, and the little squares turn into magic stages.
