About Hotel Abbots Fireside
Abbots Fireside, Channel Tunnel, dates back to the 15th century. It is located in the equally historic village of Elham, near Canterbury.
The authenticity of Abbots Fireside, Channel Tunnel, is evidenced by antique furniture, beams and original leaded windows. These features extend to the guest bedrooms which are enhanced by modern day facilities including: tea and coffee facilities, colour TV, Wi-Fi and hairdryer.
A feature of the lounge and bar is the large, medieval fireplaces. These and the hotel generally, are listed by the English Heritage Society.
Fully cooked breakfast, light lunch and fine dining choices are available to resident and non-resident visitors. The well-stocked bar is also an attractive feature.
The accommodation is 10 minutes from Eurotunnel and 20 minutes from the port at Dover. Leeds Castle is 30 minutes away and this location, in the centre of Elham Valley, is a popular haunt for cyclists and walkers.
Positive Reviews
positive:
A ‘ferry' convenient location.
It's mid-way between Canterbury and Dover, so access to the ferry couldn't be easier. You can be there in just a few minutes, having enjoyed a stay in this authentic 15th century B&B. It's also very convenient for visits to the Kent Battle of Britain and Elham Valley Railway museums ... Sene Valley Golf Club and Folkestone Racecourse.
positive:
A happy ending to this Canterbury Tale.
The welcome is warm and genuine. Everyone is so helpful and the cooked breakfast is memorable … for all the right reasons! After breakfast, you don't need to go foraging for later dining options - although, there are many in the locality - as all meals are available here.
positive:
15th century charm.
Many places make great play of their tenuous historical links. Here, though, they are truly authentic and in bucket loads! Creaking floorboards, heavy beamed ceilings and (original) leaded windows. If you want a sense of real history … this is the place to be!
