Elite Stadshotellet Västerås is a high-class hotel, located in one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in Sweden. History: In 1898, plans were drawn up for a building in Västerås that would house a hotel, restaurant, hairdressing salon, off-license, and function venue. After a great deal of wrangling and five years of decisions being passed backward and forward, the new building was completed in 1907. Architect Erik Hahr had succeeded in creating an art nouveau building is still regarded today as one of the most beautiful buildings in Sweden. In the rear courtyard of the hotel there were stables and a punch distillery, also designed by Hahr. Almost immediately after the hotel was opened, the name was changed to Stadshotellet. The hotel had 40 rooms, large dining rooms, a banquet floor, and a music cafe. It was also the first building in Västerås to have flushing toilets, which at the time was the height of luxury and a sign of progress and modern thinking.
